The Pinterest Project Day 11: Before and After Makeup

I have seen a lot of posts on Pinterest of celebrities with and without their makeup. Some are cruelly captured by paparazzi while out and about. Others allowed the photos to be posted.

It make me think about how vain I am about people seeing me with my face done. And about how I might feel if someone was outside of my home with a camera taking pictures of me with a zoom lens when I walked to the mailbox on a Saturday.

I can't help but wonder why we make such a big deal of it. Don't we all look terrible in our most relaxed moments? Isn't a ponytail the easiest style for hanging around the house or walking to the park? Aren't sweats the best invention? So, why are so many people critical of how celebrities looks without their makeup?

Let me show a few examples linked from the US Weekly website on a feature about stars without makeup.

Singer, Kelly Clarkson
Model, Heidi Klum
Actress, Reese Witherspoon

For today's Pinterest Project, I decided I would  set aside my vanity and post my own before makeup picture. I wear all natural Lemongrass Spa products (I'm a hobbyist consultant), but I like plenty of coverage. So, I usually wear blemish cover-up, foundation, eye liner, shadow, mascara, blush and lip gloss. The whole works!

I've written in my book The Repurposed and Upcycled Life about being real and letting people see us for who we are, yet I have a difficult time putting that concept into practice. Well, here goes.
Same hair. Same outfit. The only difference is makeup.

If you have my same complex about letting people see you without makeup, are you willing to be bold and join today's Pinterest Project by taking your own before and after picture? If you post it on your blog, be sure to post a link in the comments below.

I'll still be wearing makeup when I leave the house. I feel more alert and awake when my face matches my mood. But, now everyone knows what's under it.

  1. Sorry that I haven't been reading all of your blog posts this month. You have certainly been busy. I'm glad I took the time to catch up. I must not wear enough makeup because I don't see much difference and it's not because I start out looking ok, there's only so much that makeup can do. But really I think that in all of the pictures there should be a happy medium. Too much makeup on the stars just doesn't make them look that much better. And, you, Michelle are so beautiful on the inside that it doesn't matter what you have on. I promise to try to work on before and after pics of myself.
